Last night's comedy show was a whole lot of fun. I love performing with, and for, my dear friends in the poker community. My two worlds don't often collide, but when they do, it's magical!
Thank you, Joe Stapleton for having me headline this unforgettable night. Unforgettable for many reasons, not the least of which is that my mom was in attendance! Here's a pic of us being touristy at the Wynn:
After the show and the requisite socializing afterwards (aka introducing my legendary mom to everyone), it was time to get back to work, so I headed to Venetian.
Usually I like to play PLO cash games, but there was a $5/$10 No-Limit Hold Em game that looked pretty juicy. Good signs are bottles of beer and loud, boastful behavior. Both were present at that table and soon, so was I.
My initial $1000 buy-in was down to $800 pretty quickly. I re-raised a loose player's open with AhKd and he called. With $250 in the middle and less than $700 in the effective stack, we saw a flop of Ks-Tc-4s and our opponent check-raised all-in on the flop. I knew there was a chance I was behind, but I had to call. Opponent won the pot with 44.
I added another $2000 and things started dwindling again. I'd raise with Ah5h, get several callers, and have to fold. I'd call a raise with 88 and flop three high cards, etc. Just not really clicking.
With my last $1100 or so, I got into a big pot with the biggest, loudest player at the table. He raised, I 3bet, he called and I was loving my AdKd on the flop of Qd-Td-6s. He check-raised me on the flop, and I was happy to call. The turn 6d is a mixed bag because it completes the flush but also makes stronger hands possible. My opponent bet enough to put me all in, about 2/3 of the pot. I don't love it but I basically have to call. After he turned over the 66, I knew it was time to go to bed.
Today, it's the $1100 one-day tournament at Venetian, the scene of the crime, if you will. It's a good thing I'm not superstitious. The prize pool is guaranteed to be at least $250,000.
The bankroll stands at $41,945.
You two look great! Have a great time! And, oh no not the sixes!
Having mom in attendance is definitely +ev. Clayton the genuine smile in the pic with your mom is great..both looking happy! Man yiur run is coming, many like myself are wanting you to run good and hit a good score. Keep playing your solid game !
